The Biomedical Engineering Department, represented by Dr. Samar Ali Jaber, the head of the Occupational Safety Committee in the College of Engineering, participated in a workshop titled "Occupational Health and Safety in Laboratories and Educational Buildings." The workshop also featured informative lectures by Dr. Ammar Abdullah Saud (Chemical Engineering Department) and Dr. Reem Salam Ibrahim (Office of the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs).

The workshop took place on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Al-Rafidain Hall and was attended by the esteemed Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and members of laboratory quality committees, laboratory supervisors, and staff. The workshop began by explaining the concept of occupational safety and highlighting the most significant risks that students and faculty members may encounter in laboratory buildings. It emphasized the importance of avoiding these risks during practical experiments and scientific research, in addition to explaining preventive measures for both lives and properties.

The workshop concluded with valuable discussions involving the attendees, including the respected Assistant Dean, Dr. Nasir Al-Haboubi, members of the quality committees, and laboratory supervisors from the scientific departments affiliated with the College of Engineering. These discussions resulted in recommendations, including the necessity of providing occupational safety equipment and conducting periodic workshops to clarify the concept of occupational safety for first-year students, aiming at educating and raising awareness about this important topic.
