Under the auspices of the President of the University of Al-Nahrain, Professor Dr. Ali Abdul Aziz Al-Shawi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiyad, the Department of Biomedical Engineering organized a workshop titled "Ethics of Biomedical Scientific Research" on Thursday, November 2, 2023. The workshop took place in the Dijla Hall at the College of Engineering and was presented by Dr. Hasnine Ali Lfta.

The workshop began with a historical overview of the ethics of scientific research, highlighting the principles, ethical considerations, and prohibitions that should be avoided in conducting biomedical scientific research. Additionally, the workshop explained the regulations for forming ethics committees for such research and the procedures for obtaining the necessary approvals. The workshop concluded with valuable discussions with the distinguished attendance, including the respected Scientific Assistant Professor Dr. Nasir Al-Haboubi, as well as several faculty members and staff from the scientific departments affiliated with the College of Engineering and the university's administration. Also, a group of postgraduate students participated in these discussions, contributing recommendations such as the importance of focusing on the ethics of scientific research and the possibility of incorporating it into the curricula of postgraduate students. Emphasis was placed on the continued organization of seminars and workshops for researchers and stakeholders to educate and raise awareness about this important issue. Additionally, there was a call for the issuance of specific legal descriptions for establishing ethical safety committees for research in the scientific departments of the College of Engineering.
