It was conducted at nine O’clock in the morning on
Thursday, October 12, 2023, in Al-Furat Hall / College of Engineering /
Al-Nahrain University, the discussion of the master’s student in the Department
of Civil Engineering (Ihsan Mazloum Hamza) in his thesis tagged: “A Comprehensive Planning and Processing of Airport
Development: A Case Study of Al-Kut International Airport.” The discussion committee was headed by Professor Dr.
Bassem Hassan Shinawa / College of Engineering / Al-Qadisiyah University, and
the membership of Professor Dr. Ahmed Sultan Ali / College of Engineering /
Al-Nahrain University and Assistant Professor Dr. Hassan Musa Jawad / College
of Engineering / Al-Nahrain University. The thesis was completed under the
supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Asmaa Thamer Ibrahim from the Department
of Civil Engineering / College of Engineering / Al-Nahrain University
The thesis was evaluated scientifically by the first
scientific evaluator (Assistant Professor Dr. Ayser Jamil Abdel Kazem) /
College of Engineering / Al-Qasim Green University and the second scientific
evaluator (Assistant Professor Dr. Miami Muhammad Hilal / University of
Technology / Department of Civil Engineering) and linguistically by (Assistant Professor Dr.Zeina Riad Saleh / College
of Engineering / Al-Nahrain University) The thesis was accepted because it met
the requirements for obtaining a master’s degree.
This thesis was
concerned with conducting multiple studies that included investigatory the site
by researching different criteria in different ways such as the
geomorphological impact on the city and its future growth, spatial
sustainability of the site. The relationship of the case study site with the
location of other airports with their various functions was studied, and the
need, demand, and necessity for establishing an airport in the city of AL-Kut
was studied. Analytical studies were also conducted for the topography of the
airport, the direction of the prevailing winds and their distribution by
analyzing them according to the wind rose, As well as the analysis of the
Master Plan and comparing it with the ideal functions of international
airports, and an engineering analysis was conducted for the parts related to
the movement of aircraft. The results showed that the site meets the standards
required to be used as an international airport and there are advantages in
reusing the same site for the required function, and there is a need and
necessity that justifies the establishment of an airport in the city of AL-Kut.ABSTRACT
