On Monday, September 25, 2023, the Department of Civil Engineering held a meeting of the General Assembly of the department, chaired by Mr. Mosab Ayed, the head of the department, and attended by the faculty members of the department. The meeting covered several important matters, including the prioritization of academic research for faculty members and adherence to research project deadlines within the department. Mr. Ayed, the head of the department, emphasized that the department would closely monitor the progress of research projects throughout the academic year and ensure their publication in reputable journals and platforms. The meeting also highlighted the involvement of foreign researchers in ongoing scientific research. The meeting also addressed the functioning of committees within the department, emphasizing teamwork and collaboration among committee members to align with the department's vision and goals. Laboratories within the department were also discussed, with lab supervisors instructed to maintain laboratory equipment and work towards obtaining laboratory accreditation. Lab supervisors were urged to prepare documentation for each laboratory experiment to benefit students. Furthermore, Mr. Ayed stressed the importance of faculty members' punctuality in recording student absences to take appropriate actions against absent students, ensuring the smooth running of the educational process and maintaining suitable success rates. The meeting also emphasized the educational and awareness aspects of faculty members working with students to address any issues they may face. Faculty members were encouraged to propose workshops and seminars for the department and explore collaborations with various government entities to improve the department's national ranking. Regarding upcoming assessments with other universities, the meeting highlighted the need to prepare students for these evaluations by familiarizing them with the curriculum of other universities, updating the department's curriculum as needed, and employing various assessment methods during the semester, including surprise quizzes. Engaging students in classroom activities with a scientific context was also encouraged to ensure a smooth assessment process and program accreditation. Lastly, Mr. Ayed, the head of the department, emphasized the responsibility of first-year faculty members in providing suitable environments for the optimal implementation of the Bologna Process requirements through homework and in-class assignments, as well as evaluating students' understanding of assigned tasks, addressing any difficulties to ensure the success of the Bologna Process in the department. At the end of the meeting, faculty members' comments and feedback were heard and addressed.
