Under the patronage of the Deanship of Al-Nahrain University – College of Engineering, the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering organized a scientific workshop entitled “National Afforestation and Its Role in Environmental Sustainability” on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the Graduate Studies Hall in the department.

The workshop was presented by Lecturer Eng. Enas Abdul Ameer and Assistant Lecturer Eng. Ria Badee Younis. It addressed key topics including the importance of national afforestation and its role in reducing environmental pollution and combating desertification. It also highlighted its impact on improving air quality and promoting ecological balance.

The workshop reviewed prominent local and global afforestation initiatives and proposed practical approaches to enhance the role of educational institutions in supporting these efforts.

In addition, the session emphasized the importance of raising environmental awareness among students and encouraging their participation in voluntary tree-planting campaigns, as well as the role of modern technologies in supporting environmental sustainability projects.

The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members and students, featuring discussions and contributions that enriched its topics. The event underscored the importance of organizing such activities to enhance environmental awareness and contribute to building a more sustainable society.
