The Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and
Robotics Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University,
participated as a committee member and scientific supervisor on Tuesday,
February 17, 2026, in the defense of the master’s thesis presented by student
Zahraa Kadhim, entitled: “Improving the
Coupling Between the Prosthesis and the Residual Limb Based on Vacuum Assisted
Suspension,” held in a rigorous academic atmosphere characterized by
organization, precision, and constructive scholarly discussion. The examination committee consisted of a distinguished group
of professors, chaired by Prof. Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiyad, with membership of
Prof. Dr. Yasser Yarub Qahtan and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ammar Issam. The session
featured in-depth scientific dialogue and specialized remarks that reflected
the advanced academic level of the thesis. Throughout her research journey, the student demonstrated
clear diligence, strong perseverance, and notable scientific dedication. Her
thesis reflected an advanced level of applied understanding and an outstanding
ability to integrate academic knowledge with clinical and humanitarian needs,
which contributed directly to the maturity and rigor of the research work. The study focused on developing an intelligent suspension
system based on dynamically controlled vacuum to improve prosthetic stability
and reduce slippage inside the socket for below-knee amputees. This is achieved
by activating vacuum only during critical phases of gait, which contributed to
improved gait symmetry and enhanced user comfort and functional performance.
At the conclusion of the defense, the committee commended
the scientific quality of the thesis and the effort invested, congratulating
the student on this distinguished academic achievement and wishing her
continued success in her academic and professional career, as well as further
excellence for all students in ways that contribute to serving society and
advancing academic institutions.
