Based on the fact that architecture offers positive solace, architecture is a better alternative to war. Recognizing the humanitarian role played by academic and scientific institutions, and under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Architectural Engineering and the auspices of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Department of Architectural Engineering announces the launch of a joint studio between esteemed graduate students and professors (Master's/Preparatory Year) and our brothers and sisters, representatives of the Gaza City Municipalities Council, and distinguished university professors and academics in our beloved State of Palestine. The studio, titled "Sustainable Urban Development of the Old City of Gaza," was launched following an online meeting held on Monday, February 9, 2026, coordinated by Dr. Fatima Al-Nimri, a faculty member at Petra University in Jordan. This studio will continue throughout the second semester, God willing. During the studio's opening, representatives of the Gaza City Municipalities Council presented the Phoenix platform, which focuses on documenting and reconstructing Gaza City after the war. They highlighted the key stages, principles, and developmental standards that can be implemented within this urban development studio. The council representatives also expressed their readiness to provide any information or statistics related to the proposed studio project and their full willingness to discuss the students' project proposals and consider them as viable projects that contribute to the studio's objectives. The Reconstruction Platform for the Patient City (Gaza City). This meeting saw many questions from our dear students as they begin preparing the project study.
God willing, the steps and activities related to this studio, adopted by the Department of Architectural Engineering at Al-Nahrain University, will be completed. This initiative is especially supported by the studio's esteemed supervisors and our dear Master's students, and aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, including the right to live in dignity, justice, and well-being. It also seeks to stand with our oppressed brothers and sisters in beloved Palestine as a form of support, offering positive solace and reinforcing their connection to the land.
Many thanks and appreciation for the efforts made, especially to the coordinator, Dr. Fatima Al-Nimri, Department of Architecture, Petra University.
May God grant us success.
