As part of the efforts of the Deanship of the College of Engineering to enhance the scientific level of its students and its commitment to strengthening practical knowledge, the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a scientific visit for third- and fourth-year students to Al-Daura Refinery.

The students were accompanied by the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Abbas Abdul Kareem Mahmoud, along with a number of faculty members. They were received by the Safety Department Manager at the refinery, who escorted them to the Safety Department to introduce the students to the conditions and precautions that must be followed before entering the operating units.
After that, the students were taken to the crude oil refining unit, where they were introduced to the distillation columns, furnaces, and heat exchangers, and were given a detailed explanation of the unit, starting from crude oil feed entry to the separation units.
The visit then continued to the lube oil unit, where the importance of this unit was explained through the successive treatment processes, including the removal of waxes and aromatic compounds, leading to the production of oils that meet local specifications.
The visit concluded with taking commemorative photos and bidding farewell to the engineers who accompanied the students at the site. This scientific visit is considered an important one as it falls within the students’ field of specialization and reflects the strong integration between practical and theoretical aspects
