The Department of Biomedical Engineering, under the kind patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ayad Murad Takhakh, held a welcoming seminar for first-year students of both the morning and evening studies for the academic year 2025/2026. The seminar took place on Monday, 1/12/2025, as part of the College’s orientation efforts aimed at supporting newly admitted students and familiarizing them with the university learning environment and the requirements of the academic program.

The seminar included three main sessions, beginning with:

  • A welcoming address delivered by the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Professor Dr. Anas Qusay Hashim, entitled “A New Stage – A Bright Beginning – A Promising Future”.

  • This was followed by an introductory lecture entitled “Why Become a Biomedical Engineer?” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hasaneen Ali Lafta.

  • The seminar concluded with an introductory lecture entitled “Bologna Process and Study Plan” delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Ibrahim Mahmoud.

During the seminar, the floor was opened for discussion to answer students’ questions and to clarify study pathways and specialization opportunities.

Recommendations issued by the seminar:

  1. Emphasizing the importance of adhering to the study plan and following academic requirements in accordance with the Bologna Process system and the approved assessment mechanisms.

  2. Encouraging students to develop their English language skills and scientific terminology to support course comprehension and academic communication.

  3. Urging students to establish regular study habits from the first weeks, and to benefit from office hours and academic advising.

  4. Promoting student participation in scientific activities, workshops, and field visits related to medical and engineering applications.

  5. Calling for the activation of an official communication channel between the department and first-year students to share announcements, guidance, and organize inquiries.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the Department of Biomedical Engineering reaffirmed its continued support for newly admitted students through guidance and orientation activities that contribute to a successful start to their university life.
