As part of the scientific cooperation between Al-Nahrain University / College of Engineering / Department of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Engineering and the Iraqi Ministry of Planning, a scientific workshop was held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, entitled:
“Artificial Intelligence in the Service of National Development at the Iraqi Ministry of Planning – Towards Proactive Planning and Data-Driven Decision-Making.” The event took place at the headquarters of the Iraqi Ministry of Planning in Baghdad.

The workshop was presented by Assist. Lect. Nawres Hussein Abdullah and Assist. Lect. Laith Mohammed Abbas, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Planning, as well as a group of academics and researchers specialized in artificial intelligence and sustainable development.

The workshop aimed to enhance awareness of the importance of artificial intelligence in supporting national development and digital transformation within the Ministry of Planning. It reviewed key AI applications in economic planning, statistics, and project management, in addition to showcasing successful international experiences in integrating artificial intelligence into sustainable development policies. The workshop also presented a future roadmap consisting of three phases for implementing artificial intelligence in the Ministry, along with recommendations to establish a specialized digital transformation unit, adopt a national AI strategy, and strengthen cooperation between universities and government institutions to achieve knowledge- and data-driven national development.
