With the blessed sponsorship of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and under the generous supervision of the Chairmanship of the Department of Architectural Engineering, represented by Professor Dr. Haitham Abdel Hussein, was held - thank God - the first meeting of the Expert Council of the Department of Architecture at Nahrin University, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
This meeting came as a strategic step aimed at advancing the architecture profession in Iraqi cities, and strengthening the academic program for primary studies in the department,
The meeting saw the presence of an elite of department professors and its president, alongside prominent professional personalities, among them:
Architectural Consultant Ahmed Salem Khalaf - Head of the Architecture Department at the Iraqi Guild of Engineers / General Center,
• Consultant architect, Mata Al-Hashmi,
• Specialist expert Dr. Muhammad Haider Al-Sakni
• Chief of Engineers, the oldest Mrs. Noha Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghaban.
The importance of this Council in its vital role to support the department academically and professionally is highlighted by the following:
• Providing consultation of professional experts on what contributes to achieving the vision of the future department, and developing its outputs to keep up with labor market demands and contemporary architectural challenges.
• Highlighting the needs of the urban sector, and keeping up with the latest developments in the fields of education and architectural design.
• Strengthening the department's position in academic and professional rankings, locally and internationally.
• Building effective partnerships with the public and private sectors to support training and employment opportunities for the department's students.
• Presenting contemporary insights in design issues, such as smart building and environmental sustainability.
• Supporting student activities, building an incubator environment that contributes to the development of the students' skills and enhance their cultural and professional identity.
This Council represents a promising experience for the integration of roles between academic institutions and professional bodies, towards preparing a generation of Iraqi architects who possess the competence to shine at the regional and global levels
