Within the activities of the Department of Computer Engineering in cooperation with state institutions Under the auspices of the President of Al-Nahrain University, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdel Aziz Al-Shawi and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bassem Obaid Hassan, Dean of the College of Engineering, On Wednesday, 4-12-2023, the Computer Engineering Department held a scientific symposium entitled: Electronic extortion, in cooperation with the Higher Institute for Security and Administrative Development at the Ministry of Interior. Where the lecturers presented the general meaning of electronic extortion, which is considered a process of threatening and intimidating the victim by publishing pictures or video materials or leaking personal information related to the victim, in exchange for paying sums of money or exploiting the victim to carry out illegal acts in favor of the blackmailers, such as disclosing information about the employer or other business. illegal. Victims are usually tracked down through e-mail or social media, due to its wide spread and great use by all groups of society. Electronic extortion is increasing in light of the growing number of users of these means and the acceleration witnessed in the number of various chat programs. The lecturers from the Higher Institute for Security and Administrative Development also provided general tips and instructions that protect the person from reaching the stage of electronic extortion, as well as the role of the government in combating such phenomena that destroy the security of society by providing emergency contact phones to report cases of extortion. The respected Dean of the College of Engineering, Mr. Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, and Mr. Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs attended the workshop, in addition to a number of teachers and students of sufficient levels in the Department of Computer Engineering and other departments. Among the recommendations of the workshop is the need to secure personal accounts for all social networking sites of the person and not to share any important personal information with any stranger and to use phone numbers available 24 hours to report any case of threat or electronic extortion And cooperation with state agencies to limit such behavior that kills Iraqi society and security
