The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering - University of Al-Nahrain organized a workshop titled "The Role of the Private Sector in Advancing the Academic Aspect and Expanding Employment Opportunities for Biomedical Engineering Students in the Field of Pulmonary Respiratory Devices." The workshop took place in the department's laboratories on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in collaboration with Ashur Scientific Office, the authorized agents of GE Ventilator Company in Iraq. Engineers Yahya Noufal Abdul Rahman, Basim Kazem Khushjouri, and Mohammed Ahmed Abdul Razzaq from Ashur Scientific Office gave an introductory lecture on the mechanism of the device's operation and how to handle it, as well as addressing common malfunctions and their remedies.

At the end of the theoretical session, the role of biomedical engineers in hospitals was discussed, emphasizing their pivotal role as intermediaries between physicians and devices, and their active contribution to improving the healthcare landscape in Iraq.

The workshop also included a practical component where students were guided through the detailed explanation of the device parts, their functions, and were tested on their knowledge regarding the components, their properties, locations, purposes, and common malfunctions.

The workshop was managed by Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Qusai Hashim, Head of the Department, Dr. Samar Ali Jaber, the lecturer of Medical Devices for the fourth stage, and Engineer Hadeer Muayyad Mohammed, the laboratory supervisor.

At the conclusion of the workshop, it was agreed to conduct further specialized workshops in various fields in collaboration with the company, aiming to expand students' knowledge and practical skills in this vital field.
