Vision, Mission, and Objectives

Vision: We aim to build a department with local and global significance in the field of biomedical engineering and biomedical technology by 2030. This will be achieved through knowledge exchange, curriculum integration, structural integrity, and comprehensive departmental development, enhancing participation in biomedical engineering research with reputable universities, conferences, and international journals in line with the cultural, scientific, and ethical values prevailing in both current and future generations, contributing to sustainable development on all levels.

Mission: The department aims to graduate engineering personnel holding a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering capable of managing the field of biomedical engineering and efficiently dealing with all aspects related to medical engineering systems, devices, and equipment and their applications, management, and effective use to provide integrated quality in medical engineering services, integrating with medical staff in hospitals and health centers. The department's research and postgraduate projects focus on conducting modern practical research to achieve a high level of theoretical and practical research capability in this field for the country's development.

Objectives: The duration of study in the department is five years, including practical training in hospitals and maintenance centers during the summer vacation in the last two years of study, providing graduates with the ability to contribute to the following:

  1. Designing, manufacturing, developing, and maintaining medical devices, as well as measurement and diagnostic devices.
  2. Designing and manufacturing prosthetic human organs and the properties of the materials used in their manufacture.
  3. Acquiring the basic skills required to prepare the design requirements of modern hospitals and health centers and addressing physicians to cover the basic requirements and needs in the precise medical field.
  4. Supervising the biomedical engineer on all medical devices in all hospital departments, including the operating room equipment.
  5. Managing the medical device file, especially estimating the accurate needs according to the medical institution's requirements, setting the technical specifications for them, negotiating with specialized companies, and determining the optimal mechanism for working on these devices.
  6. Setting technical standards for accrediting specialized companies importing medical devices dealing with the Ministry of Health according to modern scientific principles that take into account both the medical and engineering fields.
  7. Working on implementing a quality system for the work of medical devices and equipment and occupational safety.
