The counsellor (mentors) must be qualified to perform the following task assigned to them:
- Media Aspect: Explaining and clarifying the relationship between the guide and student and stating regulations and rules governing the university atmosphere and the means to deliver the related information and methods to facilitate the communication between the related parties.
- Entertainment Aspect: dealing with the students in a friendly way and arranging events to encourage acquaintance among students. Arranging field trips, sport events, encouraging hobbies and any other inspirational and enthusiastic activities delaying or interfering with their study. However those activities are carried out with emphasising on the important of scientific research and writing scientific reports.
- Academic Aspect: dealing with the academic aspect and the related teaching methods and issues related to the integrity of the scientific and educational achievement.
- Social Educational Aspect: related to the social educational aspect with taking into consideration the educational environment provided by the mentor and trying to integrate it with the university environment by preserving the moral values and proper individual behaviour.
- Administrative Aspect: related to the clarification of the proper administrative conduct among students and teaching staff in addition to emphasis on the documentation of all guidance details.
- Specialized Aspect: It is at the core task of this administrative position and is divided into three main categories:
- Preventive: aimed to focus on the signs of problematic issues and trying to prevent their occurrence.
- Developmental: aimed to manage issues at the beginning and aiming for early resolving.
- Therapeutic: Includes all the procedures related to managing and resolving issues completely to avoid recurrence with the same mentor or other.
- The tasks in the guide manual: the tasks related to the mentor and their position administrative management including documentation, follow up, attending meetings and preparing periodic reports.
