The Industrial Prosthetics and Orthitics Engineering Lab has embarked on a new phase of innovation and learning through two simple workshops held on Wednesday. Engineers Faisal Ahmed and Fatima Mahmoud Asadullah led the session to explain the operational principles of two important devices in the field of industrial prosthetics and supports.

Faisal Ahmed elucidated the explanation of the EMG device, a diagnostic tool used to measure electrical signals produced by muscle activity. The EMG device is attached to the bodies of individuals being tested and works by recording and analyzing the electrical signals produced by muscle contractions during physical activity or relaxation. Fatima Mahmoud, on the other hand, explained the Modular Socket System, a system for manufacturing a direct socket for an amputee below the knee in a record time of no more than two hours. This system, provided by the Icelandic company Össur, includes manufacturing tools and materials that allow the manufacturing of an artificial limb socket with high technology and in a standard time frame without the need for extensive manufacturing expertise.

"The workshop was distinguished by its interactive educational pillar, where attendees, ranging from engineers to department heads, were introduced to the operational mechanism of the two devices in a simplified and engaging manner. The engineers clarified the steps for operating and using the devices correctly, as well as how to read and analyze the data they provide.

"It was an important opportunity to comprehend how to apply theoretical principles in our field," stated the teaching staff from the Industrial Prosthetics and Supports Engineering department who were present.

This workshop marks the initial step in a series of planned events in the laboratory, as the organizers look forward to upcoming workshops
