Fifth-year students from the Biomedical Engineering
Department participated in an awareness seminar organized by the Department of
Dormitory Affairs / Social Research Division, in collaboration with the
University Security Directorate for the students of the University of
Al-Nahrain. The seminar, titled "Drugs and Their Negative Effects on the
Individual and Society," took place on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in
the Peace Hall. This event is part of a series of workshops, seminars, and
courses within the training program prepared by the Ministry of Higher
Education and Scientific Research.
The seminar, attended by a large audience representing
students from various stages, faculties, departments, and scientific and
humanitarian specializations, aimed to shed light on the dangers of drug abuse
and its negative impact on human health and behavior. The discussion emphasized
the reasons for an individual's drug use, signs of drug abuse, and the stages
of transitioning into addiction. The seminar concluded with valuable and
positive discussions, driven by the active engagement of students. These
discussions contributed to a set of recommendations, including the necessity of
monitoring students' behavior and activating educational guidance in
universities and colleges, recognizing that students play a fundamental role in
building society.
