The Biomedical Engineering Department held the PhD dissertation defense of Ali Mahmoud Issa on Thursday, November 14, 2024, for his thesis titled:

"Digital Retinal Imaging System Using White Laser Light"

The defense committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Salah Al-Din Adnan Taha from the College of Engineering at Al-Mamoon University College, with the following members:

  • Professor Dr. Jamal Abdul Jabbar Hassan from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Enas Abdul Kareem Khalid from Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering, University of Baghdad
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Faiq Hussein from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Ibrahim Mahmoud from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University

The dissertation was supervised by:

  • Professor Dr. Ziyad Tariq Al-Dahan from the College of Engineering, Al-Bayan University
  • Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Ammar Fouad Issa from Ibn Al-Haytham Eye Hospital

The dissertation was scientifically reviewed by:

  • Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Kareem Zahir from the Institute of Laser and Postgraduate Studies, University of Baghdad
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Anwar Abdul Sattar Abdul Razzaq from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University

The linguistic review was conducted by Lecturer Dr. Samar Ali Jaber from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Al-Nahrain University.

The study aimed to redesign the slit-lamp device used in eye examinations to enable retinal imaging using white laser light. The dissertation was accepted as it met the requirements for the PhD degree.
