Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Ibrahim Mahmoud, a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, published a research paper titled:
"Enhancing orthodontic treatment control with fish scale-derived hydroxyapatite nanoparticles: Insights from an animal model study."

The research was conducted in collaboration with researchers from the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriya University, the University of Technology, and international researchers from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Malaysia.

The paper was published in the peer-reviewed journal The Saudi Dental Journal, which is indexed in Clarivate and Scopus databases, with an impact factor of 1.7 and a CiteScore of 3.6, placing it in the second quartile. The research focuses on studying the effect of injecting fish scale-derived hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (FsHA-NPs) on orthodontic tooth movement and the width of the periodontal ligament.
