The Biomedical Engineering Department, under the patronage of the esteemed President of Al-Nahrain University, Professor Ali Abdul Aziz Al-Shawi, and supervised by the esteemed Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Juma Salman Ji’ad, organized a scientific lecture by the visiting professor, Dr. Ayman Al-Kayyal, Dean of the College of Biomedical Engineering at Andalus University in Syria. The lecture took place on Thursday, 11th July 2024, in the Dijlah Hall and was titled:

“Flexible Endoscope Maintenance and Troubleshooting”

The lecture provided a comprehensive explanation of the parts of flexible endoscopes and how to perform their regular maintenance to ensure their efficiency. Dr. Al-Kayyal emphasized the crucial role of biomedical engineers in designing, maintaining, and developing these devices, and highlighted the importance of close cooperation with doctors to ensure their optimal use and achieve the best medical outcomes.

The workshop also featured a detailed presentation of the main types of endoscopes used in operating rooms, including both rigid and flexible endoscopes, discussing the differences in their use and various applications. It further addressed the medical applications of flexible endoscopes, demonstrating their importance in enhancing surgical precision and reducing recovery times. The workshop also covered the different specialties that use these medical endoscopes, such as gastrointestinal surgery, urology, and respiratory systems, emphasizing their significant role in accurately diagnosing diseases through clear internal imaging.

The workshop was attended by the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Qusay Hashim, several faculty members and staff, as well as a large number of students from different academic levels. There was an interactive segment where questions were posed by the lecturer and answered by the participating students.

The recommendations of the lecture emphasized the necessity of strengthening collaboration between the Biomedical Engineering Department at Al-Nahrain University and corresponding departments in other universities at the international level, exchanging expertise and knowledge to enhance innovation, achieve the best results in academic development, and improve the skills and experiences of its graduates.
