Civil Engineering Department
Civil engineering department deals with understanding the design
and analysis of human-benefit structures, such as buildings, roads, bridges,
tunnels, airports, ports, sewer system, dams and others. The main objective of the Department is to give a complete
background for those wishing to be involved in the civil engineering profession
in all its branches, including working in academia.
The Department was established in 1988, starting with
providing B.Sc. courses. Then the postgraduate program (Master’s degree) in Structural
Engineering was founded in 1989. Later courses in Geotechnical Engineering were
also provided. In 1994 the department started providing Ph.D. studies in Structural
Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering.
The Department aims to create graduate students having the
following abilities:

engineering design and engineering work on the sites.

Build
upon the graduate spirit of teamwork and communication.
3-
Build
upon the graduate engineering personal leadership and the highest standard
possible.

To
be eligible for the function to its competence.

Agree to expand knowledge of what the graduate knows so as to complete
his academic studies. And to accommodate development that is happening in the
field of civil engineering.
6- Capable of serving his community locally and abroad.
Aims
The department aims to prepare leader civil
engineers of high caliber and specialized merits enabling them to serve In the
development of the future of Iraq these engineers are to gain up-to-date
knowledge in their field of specialization and are able to cope with the latest
civil engineering knowledge of the twenty first century.
